for
filigranka 's prompt: theme: non-English music (lyrics, creators - feel free to interpret the theme however you want!)
you can listen on Spotify or YouTube (some Inti-Illimani songs aren't available on Spotify, so I've put covers instead)
This is a collection of mostly protest songs and a few that just rock. It's all in Italian & Spanish (some from Chile and few from Spain).
If you have any questions about lyrics or translations or the history of any of these songs, it's mostly stuff I grew up with and that I love dearly, so I might know a thing or two (or at least be able to google in the right direction - the dearth of English language resources about Inti-Illimani is frankly insulting). If not - just enjoy!

Date: 2019-09-18 05:18 am (UTC)I love the... progression of the music, from the more dance-and-sing-inducting ;) and energetic beginning to the calmer, more melancholic 2/3 part. And I like the closed, circular composition, the first and the last song having the same vibe and style - both more cinematic/theatrical, with the additional drama and pathos, perfect as the opening and ending "credits", of sort. They give the whole the narrative-like feeling, like it was a soundtrack for a film. Makes one imagine plots and characters. And 'narrative' fanmixes are my favourites, so I'm delighted.
Aaaand, I know it's protest song fanmix, but all songs you've chosen - especially the first part, but really, all - are so... inviting one to sing and dance? (I don't know the English term or even if there's any). Catchy. So full of energy, melody and voice they immediately brightened my mood and I swear, when the second chorus came, I was already signing it, every time. They're all great and fit together really well. I love your choice of them and I love this mix, I'm sure I'll listen to it many times in the future.
Aaand, I enjoy all the little tips of to Eastern Europe, sure, covers - variations? - of Katjuša and all. <3 <3 <3
and I couldn't stop myself from checking your other mixes, and we have so similar tastes in them!no subject

I guess protest doesn't quite encapsulate the whole of it. Like, "Non mi avete fatto niente" is about our response to terrorism, but it also went to the Official House of Trash, aka Eurovision. Or "Vengo dalla luna" is from a new hip group that came out of a tv competition, and their song is about borders and anti-racism. It's political, but also pop. And even things like "Bella Ciao", which was sung by partisans about to risk their lives against the fascist regime, well, I say this with the utmost respect for the people who made sure I could grow up free: that song slaps!! You do need something cheery as you march along.
The end "credits" were kind of an afterthought, it's a song (this one without political themes at all) someone in the Saint Seiya/Knights of the Zodiac fandom used for a vid a long time ago (...10 years, I think? OH MAN, I feel old) and I've loved it ever since.
Your comment made me incredibly happy, thank you <3

A lot of actual war songs is, because really, if they march to the Very Serious Choir Renditions, they'd probably die of the old age become reaching the battle. ;) But I have to say even our more energetic and happy war songs aren't so dance-inducting; this version of Katjuša is more banger-ish then the Polish and Russian ones I heard, too (although I'm sure I haven't heard even he half of them). Perfect for this mix!
Every time we sent a song about borders and similar to Eurovision, it was a sloooow, ballad, full of pathos. So very stereotypical of us. :D
